It’s playoffs time in the NBA, which also means it’s awards season. Steph Curry is MVP; Lou Williams was recognized as this year’s best sixth man; Kawhi Leonard locked it down on defense; and young Andrew Wiggins is the rookie of the year. That latter award is what we’re here to give some attention to today, as it related to this rare pair of LeBrons that recently sold for quite a hefty sum on eBay: the Nike Air Zoom Generation Rookie of the Year edition. The clean white and silver colorway of the AZG honors LBJ’s dominant rookie campaign with a “ROY 03-04” insignia in the form of LeBron’s old logo stitched on each heel and his rookie year averages of 20 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists indicated on each lateral side. Never released at retail, the very limited shoe was only available for LeBron himself, and there are only a few sample pairs floating around—including this pair you see here. We just saw this year’s ROY sneaker unveiled for Andrew Wiggins, so now take a look at the first-ever rookie award celebratory shoe from 2004.
