LeBron James is one of the best basketball players on the planet, the first athlete in the history of Nike to sign a lifetime contract (worth north of $1 billion we might add) but he’s still striving for greatness off of the court with partnerships with the University of Akron to ensure kids from his hometown get a college education and a new venture known as Springhill Entertainment where he aims to produce original content for Hollywood with his partners.
Deadline is reporting that James and business partner Maverick Carter will produce a half-hour scripted comedy show about two best friends and their employees in an up-and-coming sneaker store outside of Los Angeles for HBO in the near future. Past HBO shows like How to Make It in America have touched on sneaker obsessives in the past, but it will be interesting to see how an entire show revolving around a sneaker boutique will fair. Maverick and LeBron have already produced the scripted comedy Survivor’s Remorse on Starz and the reality game show The Wall on NBC.
Will the show be realistic enough to display brands outside of Nike? We’ll definitely be tuning in!
