As recent reveals have indicated, 2021 marks a big change for how Nike celebrates Chinese New Year. Rather than highlight the animal of focus (the Ox), the brand has opted to deviate and celebrate the many pillars of Chinese culture instead. Alongside food-inspired Dunk Lows and further collaborative works with CLOT, we’re to basketball come into frame thanks to Kyrie Irving’s Kybrid S2.
Similar to the aforementioned, the pair doesn’t overtly scream “Chinese New Year” in its design. However, auspicious hits of red do accent the pair at its swoosh, counter, tongue, and eye stay, though they’re placed far into the background of an upper layered heavily with multiple, loud patterns. The medial may be the most neutral of the sort, but what it lacks in color it compensates with many a sprawling motif, as Swooshes hide alongside black and white greenery and many a differently styled artwork. Then, over at the lateral, bright hues begin to steal the spotlight, its forestation picturesque and fantastical as it grows over to a print patchwork by the heel. And this only describes one foot — the left, specifically — so expect an order far different on the right as is the Kybrid S2’s seeming signature.
Grab a close-up look at this detailed-packed release here and expect to see it next year in January.
In other news, the adidas ZX 1000C is back in grey and blue.
