The Nike Blazer Low ’77, rolled out plenty of times before in colorways new and old, is back once again with a retro spin. Vibrant blue suede takes up the upper of the traditionally leather-bound sneaker, with a gum sole adding some classic flair.
Save for cursive Nike branding on the heel, the upcoming twist on the Nike Blazer Low may not be revolutionary at first glance. The gum sole formula is one that the sportswear giant has frequently employed, and though the suede upper is a nice twist, it isn’t totally out of left field. Instead, the intrigue comes in that this colorway may indicate hopes to recontextualize the Blazer line as a whole going forward.
In recent years, the decades-old sneaker has been adopted as a weightlifter staple, a far cry from the skate-ready variations they rolled out in towards the start of last decade. It’s not quite a dead ringer, but these certainly call to mind the Vans x Golf Wang collection from around that time. In this dressed up look, the Blazer Low may also be aiming towards a third lane. This dressed up, grown up formulation harkens to the similar territory once held down by other Nike Models, namely that of the Killshot 2.
We can speculate all day about Nike’s corporate strategy, but the bottom line is blue suede is a perfect match for Blazer Low. If you’re inclined to agree, this pair will be rolling out to retailers in the near future, coming with a price tag of $90.
Elsewhere out of Beaverton, Vanessa Bryant continues to provide sneak peeks from her archives, taking to social media to show off a never before seen Nike Kobe 4.
