There’s some palpable momentum behind the Nike Cortez, emerging once again as a centerpiece of Nike’s general release strategy in the past several months. Any time a model steps into the spotlight in that fashion, though, there’s a predictable pattern- to avoid saturation, you have to make some changes to keep the shoe feeling fresh. The latest curveball is the Nike Cortez “Satin Pack,” painting the fabric across three colorways.
Each of the shoes on display tackle the prompt in different ways. First up is the pink edition, which redoubles the effect of the material change by fully embracing a delicate overall atmosphere. Mauve suede over top provides a bit of textural and tonal contrast, but there’s no mistaking the soft profile this is aiming for.
In grey & “Glacier Blue,” the satin takeover is somewhat muted, as the rest of the shoe holds onto some standard Cortez color-blocking, or at least an icy tonality that the shoe has struck several times in recent memory. Finally, the pair in “Triple Black” strikes a dressier, more elegant tone. While the colors are easily digestible in each, there’s some slight touches that make this pack stand further apart, with the wide, Satin laces and the debossed leather tongue emblem chief among them.
The Nike Cortez “Satin Pack” arrives in women’s sizing for Fall ’24, expected to carry a $90 retail price.
