After a rollout that consisted of official image leaks and Olympic first looks. LeBron’s first off-the-court silhouette is upon us. Nike truly rolled out the red carpet for this moment, issuing an official press release ahead of the model’s September 18th debut. Alongside it, we got a sneak peek of the four colorways set to launch the model and a host of hardware specifics.
Many of the performance details revealed here were readily apparent just off of first impressions (a lightweight bootie entrance & wrap-around midsole chief among them.) However, the Swoosh divulges a bit of the design process at the same time, sharing that James, Beaverton creatives and the Nike Sport Research Lab worked in concert to optimize the LeBron TR1‘s performance for “multisport athletes,” maintaining a balance of style & all-day wearability alongside it. Additionally, the “glove-like construction and wide last” are intentionally pliable, able accomodate swelling feet as training intensifies.
Jumping to the visual aspects, each the looks on tap here showcase some weighty narratives. The grey & volt colorway that surfaced first is in fact titled the “Dunkman,” an allusion to the legendary theme that began with a LeBron II sample, still holding onto “grail” status as one of the most sought-after pairs in the King’s lineage. The palette has graced many of LeBron signature shoes in the time since, so it’s fitting that it crops up in this application.
From there, we get a “Purple Rain” edition, referencing the legendary Prince and tying into the recent LeBron 21 with the same name. An all-black “Zero Dark Thirty” edition is on tap next, referencing James’ penchant for disconnecting from social media entirely when the playoffs roll out. Finally, the “Better With Age” calls upon the King’s love for wine and his public battle with Father Time, especially prescient as he threatens the NBA’s all-time games played record. The texture of the LeBron TR 1’s engineered mesh upper appears in a neutral beige, intentionally reminiscent of cork.
As stated towards the top, the Nike LeBron TR 1 officially releases on September 19th in the “Dunkman” colorway. Followed by the “Zero Dark Thirty” on October 10th, “Purple Rain” on October 23rd and “Better With Age” on November 11th. A $130 retail price is expected for all four.
