The Vans California collection was launched in 2009, its name an obvious nod to the place where the sports with which they’re synonymous are most widely practiced. You might recognize some of Off the Wall’s signature design elements in play on this Nike Coast Classic SP, a shoe whose name gives respect where it’s due. These are more or less a Swoosh’d Vans Chukka Low (or the 106) and it seems fitting that these colorways offer a twist on the iconic checkerboard motif. And by using contrasting gingham side panels as foils to black suede on the toe and heel, you somehow end up with a look that’s totally unique.
