Air Jordan 1 KO
The Air Jordan 1 KO (Knock Out) is a canvas version of Michael Jordan’s first signature shoe. Though sometimes looped in with modern retools of the AJ1 proper, the KO is a hair away from the OG model, first releasing in 1986. It’s not entirely surprising that this piece of trivia is somewhat lost in the modern canon, as that original run didn’t attain much commercial or cultural success.
However, the low-key construction that lends the Air Jordan 1 KO its lower price tag certainly has its endorsers, and as such, it’s returned for retro runs on a relatively consistent basis. 2014 was arguably the biggest push; the KO debuting rolled out carrying some of the most iconic AJ1 colorways like “Royal,” “Chicago,” “Bred” and “Shadow.”
The lime green Billie Eilish collaboration at the end of 2021 ignited renewed attention around the KO, leading to another multi-year return to shelves. While no big releases are currently on the schedule for 2024, warmer weather could be a more fitting time to drop the lightweight take on Mike’s first signature.
