With the story of the ‘Kilroy’-style Air Jordan IX releases being such a hot topic, let’s take a look back at the highest point of Michael’s career right before that event – the completion of the first NBA Championship Three-Peat since the Boston Celtics did it in 1966 (the Lakers would complete another in 2002). On June 20th, 1993, Michael Jordan led the Chicago Bulls to a third-straight NBA Title, leaving the Phoenix Suns laying in chalk and haplessly wondering if they ever really had a shot at knocking off the two-time defending NBA Champs. Read up on the 1993 NBA Finals and the Chicago Bulls’ first Three-Peat for the latest Was It The Shoes? below and let us know if you remember this historic MJ event of the 90’s!

The term ‘three-peat’ is just one of the many coined terms that could fill a dictionary of Michael Jordan terminology. A feat that’s been done just twice in roughly half a century was repeated by Jordan and the Chicago Bulls in a span of just eight years, and had Jordan stayed in the NBA for the ’94 and ’95 seasons, the Bulls could be sporting a potential “eight-peat” and the title of the greatest dynasty in the history of professional sports. But still, a three-peat is an amazing feat on its own – especially when done at the guidance of the greatest player of all-time.

The Chicago Bulls were heavy favorites to win it all again at the start of the ’92-’93 season, but the rough yet polished Phoenix Suns team, led by Charles Barkley, Kevin Johnson, and Dan Majerle put the Bulls to an extreme test. Despite the competition, Jordan put up one of the most incredible spans of scoring output in NBA Finals history by averaging nearly 40 points a game. However, what sealed the deal for the Bulls wasn’t a bucket by Jordan, but by one of Michael’s most trusted teammates – John Paxson.
