This week, SN is teaming up with online sneaker haven, Sneakerpedia, to give our readers a look into some of our staff’s all-time favorite shoes. We’ll each be doing a Top 20 list counting down some of the most beloved treasures in our personal collections. I’m up first and I admit, I’m not sure that I can really say that these are my 20 favorite sneakers ever, but this is definitely somewhere in the ballpark. If I sat down to make this list in a month or a year, it might look a little different, but these are twenty that I feel particularly strong about right now and fit the criteria of being either out in the current rotation or at least easily accessible.
You won’t find Yeezy’s or the latest Foamposite heat on my list. There are no PE’s, scarce SB Dunks and not even too many Jordans or basketball shoes for that matter, so if that turns you off, you should probably stop reading. You aren’t about to see the 20 rarest, most expensive or most envy-provoking shoes that I own, because as Jay-Z once said, “When I rock jewels, it ain’t to impress you.” These are 20 shoes that I unconditionally cherish for whatever the reason, all hoopla and hypebeastery aside. As a lifelong sneaker connoisseur, my philosophy has always been simple and I’d encourage it to one and all: I wear what I like and I don’t worry what anyone else thinks about it. And for me, what I like are the classics. For the most part, I like my sneakers how I like my music and movies – from the late 80′s and early 90′s – a theme that will unsubtly play out in the selections found below with no apologies.

The summer closes out with a bang, as the last week of August wraps up today with plenty of promises of premium footwear just beyond the horizon. The Nike LeBron X continues to win folks over, with a couple new colorways and even a release date popping up. Other sig news arrives from the Jordan Brand front thanks in part to Carmelo Anthony, who revealed the still un-released Jordan Melo M8 Advance. And if that wasn’t tantalizing enough the retro department brought one particularly exciting preview: the first shot of next year’s Air Jordan V retro lacking the ’23′ hit that would typically steer things away from OG orientation. Oh and speaking of His Airness, we touch on another of his classic moments via our Was it The Shoes? feature.
The Nike Air Force 1′s 30th birthday carries on, seemingly caught in a ‘Foamposite’ theme at the moment as multiple more shots from that cross campus silo stew were revealed. The Nike Air Foamposite One proper is still keeping to itself just a little bit though, with a stealthy pair set to reverse the recent colorful trend just a bit. Beyond Beaverton, New Balance brings in some heavy duty tastemakers for a two-sneaker pack, Reebok continues their retro onslaught with some Shawn Kemp specials and the ever important AI models, and Vans blends with constant collaborator Taka Hayashi. Did we mention we’re giving away some exclusive Madden ’13 sneakers? Get a look at all these major headlines and more right after the jump in this edition of the Sneaker News Weekly Rewind.

This past week brought us a long-awaited release date for the first two colorways of the Ewing 33 Hi retro, and while NYC will get first crack at them at the end of the month, it appears that some lucky fellas have been laced a bit early. First we saw DJ Clark Kent rocking the white “Knicks” edition, and now we get a look at Pusha T hitting the stage for last night’s Heineken Red Star show in Chicago in the red suede pair with the matching red logo tee. Continue on after the jump for some more pics and let us know if you’ll be picking up a pair of Ewings for yourself when they begin to hit retailers on August 31st.

As the USA takes on Spain in the Olympic Gold Medal game this morning, LeBron James has left his Lunar Hyperdunks in the locker room, electing instead to debut the Nike LeBron X to the world. We’ve seen a few peeks at LeBron’s 10th signature Nike shoe, but with the whole world watching King James go for gold in London, what better time to officially unveil the shoe than with the stage so big and the lights so bright. Alongside LeBron wearing the shoe for the gold medal game, Nike has shared some crisp images of the upcoming LeBron X, shown in the same USA colorway seen on court today, but with a gold Swoosh replacing the red one seen on Bron’s pair. The LeBron X will break new ground by incorporating by a whopping four-piece of Nike performance technology – using Flywire and Hyperfuse construction on the upper, Nike+ capabilities and the first ever visible full length Zoom unit. Check out more pics and info after the jump and stay tuned for much more on the Nike LeBron X coming soon.

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the legendary Supreme x Nike SB Dunk Lows, the two team up again for a new spin on the classic design. First previewed back in March, the 2012 version keeps the same basic blocking as the originals, but this time with a bold red base color. Details have been quiet since pics first popped up, but finally, we have a solid release date for the project. The shoes will be available this Thursday, July 19th at the New York, LA and London Supreme stores, as well as online, followed by a Japan release on July 21st. There’s no question that these will disappear with the quickness, so plan accordingly and let us know if you’ll be taking a shot at grabbing yourself a pair later this week.

Eric Koston, Stefan Janoski, Omar Salazar… the Nike SB line boasts an impressive roster of talent with their current lineup of signature models, but in the beginning, there was only one. Despite having six signature Nike models under his belt and just capturing his 4th X Games gold medal, when it comes to his skateboarding success and high-profile sponsorship endorsements, Paul Rodriguez Jr. still feels like a kid who “hit the lotto.” The humble 27 year-old superstar is quite aware of how lucky he is to be living the dream, and there’s no question that he has put in the hard work to get where he is – and not just work on his board.
Paul likes to get very hands on with the design of his signature Nike shoes and it’s clear that he goes all out to ensure the best performance possible. P-Rod knows his shoes inside and out. He knows what he’s looking for and what to ask for, and the results are evident in a solid catalog of shoes that he feels keep getting better and better. We recently had the chance to catch up with Paul to chat about his new shoe, the recently released P-Rod 6, as well as his early days with Nike SB, his all-time favorite sneakers and the eventual legacy of the Nike P-Rod line. For all this and more, continue on for the full Sneaker News interview with Paul Rodriguez after the jump.
