Kanye West is a hip-hop and pop culture superstar best known for his music, taste in fashion, and sneakers. He is noted as one of the most well-versed sneakerheads in the celebrity community and is consistently seen wearing select sneakers in his music videos, live shows, and in public. He is also the first non-athlete to his his own Nike signature shoe called the Air Yeezy, which debuted in 2009. The Air Yeezy 2 is scheduled for a release in June 2012.

The feet of Kanye West himself have always been, understandably so, the first place to look to find out what’s coming next from the line. The latest example of that is the red Nike Air Yeezy 2. The sneaker had been floating around in sample form for a while, but it wasn’t until they showed up on the feet of the Louis Vuitton Don himself during that Saturday Night Live performance that the anticipation hit a fever pitch. It appears that, going forward, the shoes will sort of be his on-stage go to as far as footwear goes, and this past weekend he brought them out again, hitting the main stage at the Governor’s Ball festival in NYC on Sunday night.

Kanye West made a major splash at Governors Ball 2013 by debuting three new songs off his upcoming Yeezus album – and did so while wearing the Red Air Yeezy 2. The upcoming all-red Yeezy 2 release has been a hotly discussed topic especially with Nike confirming the release later this year, and as we get one of the clearest on-feet looks of this upcoming sneaker drop, we can definitely expect the excitement to mount even more. The rumblings surrounding the potential release of the red Air Yeezy 2 continue with this latest update that zeroes in on the coinciding June 18th release date of Kanye’s upcoming album Yeezus. While nothing has been directly confirmed by Nike in any way, there was some provocative information and theories that we laid out when we discussed a potential third release of the Yeezy 2 a few weeks back. This latest image reveals something rather straightforward – a June 18th release and what appears to be 1,000 pairs made, although what method of release hasn’t been made clear. Will it be included randomly in copies of his album? That seems to be a popular theory at this point, so stay tuned to Sneaker News for more updates as we near D-Day (or Yeezy-Day) on June 18th.
UPDATE: As we told you before, the potential release information surrounding the Red Air Yeezy 2 has still not been confirmed by Nike or any official sources. Now, Ibn Jasper has stepped up to let us all know that the Red Air Yeezy 2 release date of June 18th is definitely not official at this point, so we’ll just have to wait for the final word to come down from Nike and/or Kanye. Stay tuned for the latest as more info emerges.

Perhaps one of the most painstaking releases in Nike history was the Nike Air Yeezy 2 in 2012. Some may postulate that Nike’s Twitter RSVP system was created just to counter the seemingly limitless crowds that would undoubtedly show at storefronts, and although independently owned shops did not employ their own “Twitter RSVP”, Nike did encourage each store to use a raffle-style release in order to minimize the camp-out craze. Two colorways of the Air Yeezy 2 came and went, and considering the original Air Yeezy released in three versions, many believed that a third Air Yeezy 2 colorway was in the works – especially with that curious “Kobe” colorway in purple/red/volt still swimming around the net and Gentry Humphrey himself coolly mentioned that “things are still in the works”. With that said, the excitement around the Air Yeezy 2 has never waned, but recent events have propelled this discussion topic back to the surface. The Nike Air Yeezy 2 in all red has been spotted on the feet of Kanye West. The sighting comes from his SNL performance, a set that came at the end of an incredible multi-media promotional weekend for Mr. West. Promising that the all red Nike Air Yeezy 2 would be showing up was baby-moms Kim Kardashian, who Instagrammed a sneak peek at the shoes next to what appears to be an advance copy of his upcoming Yeezus album. Kanye West wearing adidas? That’s one you don’t see every day, especially considering the fact that the man’s been given his own signature shoe by Nike. Breaking from his typical brand loyalty, ‘Ye was spotted on the set of Anchorman: The Legend Continues wearing the adidas Originals Forum Mid. We’re gonna guess that the outfit was put together by a costume designer rather than Mr. West himself, which perhaps explains the rare Three Stripes sighting.
