Looks like there’s some more Kobe-branded goodies for the overseas cats – the low-pro and stylish Nike Black Mamba 24. Continuing with the ankle-less construction, the Black Mamba 24 adds in Hyperfuse cut-outs with other features carried over from Zoom Kobe heritage like the pronounced heel-counter. Five punchy colorways are expected to hit retailers in Asia, where the Kobe fandom is far greater than it is in the States, but do you think Nike Basketball should open up a channel for these Kobe kicks to the U.S. market? Check out the five colorways of the Black Mamba 24 and let us know if you think there should be more non-signature Kobe footwear available in your area.

All of yesterday’s Olympic excitement was capped off by a nice recap of a Dream Team Showcase at a Nike Basketball location in South Korea. If you managed to flip through the gallery of images, you would’ve spotted some interesting figurines modeled after Nike Basketball’s Big Three – Kobe, LeBron, and KD. Turns out it was a Nike-commissioned project, in which they tapped the skills of South Korean toy-maker Coolrainz (they’ve worked together before); a total of six models were made (two of each player), with one in complete Team USA and sig shoe gear and another all-black version with white facial hair and Nike Sportswear apparel. A detailed gallery of the figurines are just below, so take a look and let us know what you think!

Upon seeing yesterday’s look back at the original Hyperdunk’s role in the past twenty years of Nike Basketball innovation, one Sneaker News reader predicted that the next model we’d see would be its peer in the performance roundball arena, the Zoom Hyperfuse. It’s a reasonable guess given the chronology, but also overlooks a model that, while using some of the same technologies that debuted on the Hyperdunk, has been arguably even more potent in its influence. The Nike Zoom Kobe IV is the result of designer Eric Avar (the man behind more of these ’20 Years…’ styles than any other) realizing Kobe Bryant’s desire for “the lowest, lightest weight basketball shoe [they] can make.” The Zoom Kobe 4 set its sights on soccer for a new generation of lowcut basketball sneakers, released in a huge range of colorways that’s since become the norm, was the first Nike Basketball signature with NIKEiD custom options from day one and marked the Black Mamba’s first Shaq-less championship. Click through to read more about the Kobe line’s defining formula, let us know your opinion on its place in history as well as lowtop b-ball shoes in general, and stick with Sneaker News as we inch toward the finish line on this Swoosh roundball retrospective.
