2009 has been probably the greatest year so far for reappropriating cultural milestones into sneaker design. From Jackie Robinson breaking baseball’s colour barrier to the 40th anniversary of the lunar landing, Nike has practically put on their Cortezes and run back through an extended cut of Forrest Gump. But it’s actually the Nike Sportswear Air Pegasus 89 that will be released in commemoration of two decades hence the fall of a wall that symbolized a shift both in Eastern/Central Europe and the world abroad. This black lowtop with insane purple contrast stitching and a concrete-textured Swoosh are an interesting tribute to one of the world’s great sneaker loving cities.
