Bling has largely fallen by the wayside as streetwear has followed Jay-Z’s advice to ‘Throw on a suit, get it tapered up.’ That’s not to say that everyone in the streets is walking around wearing a three-piece Italian suit, but you’d be just as silly to argue that urban fashion hasn’t ‘matured’ to some degree, with tighter fits and traditional cut and sew items taking over where oversized technicolor tees and high-contrast outfits had once ruled the day. So this new Air Jordan 1 Phat GS finds itself in an interesting place, a model whose sparkly Swoosh might be out of place were they made for men, and one that could become a lady sneakerhead’s new best friend thanks to the relatively versatile palette in play.
