Gourmet will be remembered as one of the pioneers of hybrid design, not because they reached back into their catalog to piece together mashups of the glory days, but because they recognized the malleability of signature design elements from all over the footwear spectrum. Take for instance the Gourmet Quattro Skate, a model that got its start shortly after the company was established in 2007. The original Quattro was a line-for-line copy of the Air Jordan XII, right down to the sunray stitching eminating from its unique asymmetrical mudguards. In recent years, the quilting has been stripped and the mudguard redesigned into something more like an homage than a Xerox, ane even more recently that was transformed into a skate shoe. It’s a great transition: the adjustment of those offcentered mudguard strips into a distinct ollie area, and on this latest edition it shifts from the skate-friendly suede to a black leather more suitable to pair with the four-color camo canvas uppers. So we’re looking at a shoe that’s covered in a concealment pattern yet ostensibly wants to be seen, that represents four degrees of design evolution executed in less than four years; can you see why Gourmet is considered a leader in lifestyle sneakers?
