If you watched Nike’s latest “Short A Guy” advertisement, you’d notice that a few sports that aren’t usually the focal point of Nike’s athletic endeavors like lacrosse got a nice feature. The sport was invented centuries ago by Native Americans and now is gaining momentum throughout elite college programs in the USA, so Nike’s newfound attention to developing original lacrosse products has grown to keep up with the exponential interest. Nike enlisted the support of the Thompson brothers, members of the Onondaga Nation in upstate New York, to play a role in the video spot. Four of the brothers and their cousin, Ty, competed for the Iroquois Nationals during the 2014 World Lacrosse Championship and brought home the bronze medal. It was a huge win for Native Americans to be represented at the podium for a sport that is rooted in the community’s traditions.
