The race for the first ever sub-2 hour marathon time is on. adidas and Nike have both previewed new models featuring some of their most advanced lightweight technology to date in an effort to help some of the best runners in the world run the 26.2 miles in under 2 hours. Nike debuted the Nike Zoom VaporFly Elite yesterday, as the sleek concept silhouette redefines speed thanks to a ‘more is more’ mantra that sees a 21mm thick ZoomX midsole unit paired with an updated Flyknit upper for a dynamic profile tailor made for each individual’s foot.
The process of creating this head-turning model featured tireless experimentation and data analysis regarding the anatomy of the human foot paired with new ideas that have never been found on marathon-centric models. Instead of a closer-to-the-ground feel, they bolstered the midsole with a thicker construction and hidden unidirectional carbon fiber plates, included to help combat foot fatigue. Today we get an updated look at the Nike VaporFly Elite and its dynamic colorway featuring a light blue Flyknit construction, a bold oversized Swoosh that extends to the Flyknit Racer-esque midsole, and more. This early wear-test sample was recently previewed on Instagram alongside the future of Nike Running’s latest Zoom-cushioned trio known as the Nike Breaking2 Footwear Collection.
