While unquestionably overshadowed by other propositions under the Nike Sportswear umbrella, the Nike Waffle Trainer continues to deliver compelling styles at a more accessible price point than most of its kin. Its next ensemble, however, is surely to draw attention given its mismatch color-blocking, tie dye pattern and whimsical googly eyes at the heel.
Ostensibly part of a made-for-Japan collection introducing a trio of cartoon bears, the upcoming sneaker indulges in a color palette reminiscent of the Nike Dunk Low “Brazil”: nylon bases set the stage for green suede overlays with their vibrant yellow makeup. The textured fabric, however, sets itself apart via its semi-faded look and use of tie dye patterns, the latter most prominent on the bottom heel panel. Lateral swooshes and upper rear overlays boast a red tone that deviates from the aforementioned hues, while logos on the medial wall introduce a mismatched blue arrangement to the mix. Exposed foam tongues, partly-yellowed midsoles and an all-black waffle-patterned outsole nod the Waffle Trainer’s debut era. Lastly, three graphics of cap-wearing bears are printed onto the insole alongside “ナイキ” (“Nike”) characters.
