After the reveal of the now indefinitely-postponed Travis Scott collaborations and the uniquely modified SP versions that saw tribal patterns and added buckles, Nike is now ready to usher in the Air Trainer 1 in its most original and recognizable form.
Designed by the legendary Tinker Hatfield, the Air Trainer 1 first debuted in “Chlorophyll,” and the scheme remains one of the shoe’s most recognizable appearances. Inspired by the Portland YMCA’s gym equipment, the palette offsets white, black, and grey neutrals with the titular green, applying the latter to the Nike branding at the strap/heel, the eyelet along the collar, and the inside tongue. Just two years ago, Nike SB offered their own interpretation, which opted for a suede-heavy assembly distinct from the original. The re-release coming this month is more faithful, as this first look at the upcoming Retro release suggests.
Currently, the return of the Air Trainer 1 “Chlorophyll” is scheduled for March 22nd, 2022 at retailers in Europe. A US release date has yet to be revealed, but should arrive soon. Stay tuned for more updates and official images, but mark your calendars for 3/22.
