2021’s return of the Air Tuned Max was regarded among the best thing to happen in sneakers last year, but since the re-issue of the OG “Celery” colorway, not much had occurred around the late 90s Air Max shoe. There were no collaborations or special editions, but rather minimal attention around a shoe that had potential to gain some buzz in the growing retro-future silhouette.
To be fair, most of the new Air Tuned Max releases that arrived were fairly bland because nothing could stand up to the matte look of the original. Because of its super-modern design, the classic elements typical of a retro runner don’t quite fit, and rather a set of equally stimulating colors and materials had to be used just so composition’s sake. This upcoming release is honestly one of the few good ones as it pairs up a bright orange overlay and a volt heel above a black/grey base, proving once more that color-blocking is key.
This Air Tuned Max is expected at Nike retailers soon, so stay tuned for updates and we’ll let you know when these are available. In other late-90s runner news, the Air Max 97 “Silver Bullet” is set to return in 2022.
