Since the beginning of their partnership, Maison Margiela and Reebok have come together in the most unique of ways, lensing the footwear brand’s classics through the eponymous label’s design ethos. Here, the two are bringing their attention to the Classic Leather and Club C, deconstructing each in a way that evokes the intangible feeling and memory of a piece.
Appropriately dubbed the “memory of,” the collection strips both its silhouettes bare. The Classic Leather is removed of its cross-check, revealing underneath the punch holes that originally stitched the panel into place. Adjacent, the felt liner that’s typically out of view is made visible across both the profile and heel counter, the latter of which has been dismantled so that the notches and heel cap are fully on display.
As for the Club C, it, too, is similarly taken apart, with the heel tab, cross check, and eyelet tab undergoing a “reduction process.” Pen markings can be seen as these are peeled back, while the parts that neighbor feature the decortiqué, a technique that entails cutting up an item to expose its structure.
Take a closer look at all the details for yourself below, and expect both the Club C and Classic Leather to be made available on March 25th at select Margiela stores, maisonmargiela.com, and Reebok.com.
