Though yet to announce the Air Force 1‘s 40th Birthday officially, it’s obvious the brand has big, big plans for the silhouette. The overwhelming number of reveals are enough to suggest as much, as many of these releases feature beloved collaborative partners, unique inspirations, and even the overt mention of an anniversary.
The latter is true of the shoe’s upcoming “Los Angeles” colorway, whose tongue touts “Anniversary Edition” in elegant, ornate cursive. Highlighted in a bright yellow, too, the text clearly expresses the Swoosh’s intention, all the while providing additional meaning to what is effectively a love letter to the City of Angels.
If not for the “Los Angeles” text along the insole, the pair’s influences would be difficult to pinpoint. This is due to the busy, texture-heavy upper, whose neutral-colored materials alternate between thick canvas, woven knits, quilting, and the like. Elements reminiscent of handmade products are also present across the upper, from the thick stitching along the edge of every panel to the floral embroideries spotlighted in orange.
