A relic of the 1980s, the Nike Terminator High hasn’t had the same exposure as other old school basketball shoes, but the last year has seen it explode in visibility.
In addition to returning in original styles inspired by some of the country’s best collegiate basketball teams, the high-top model has taken on handfuls of fashion-forward ensembles. Recently, the Nike Terminator appeared in a “Black Forest/White/Del Sol” color scheme first seen in 2004. The tri-colored offering formed part of a Nike Remix collection and celebrated the Seattle Supersonics, a team that’s been defunct since the end of the 2008-09 NBA season. The Terminator High, however, isn’t done commemorating NBA franchises as a recent black, red, and white option has emerged with callouts to the Portland Trail Blazers. Beyond the color scheme, the word “Portland” lands on the tongue label alongside the number “77.” As history tells it, the 1976-77 season marked the first time the Trail Blazers made it to the Playoffs, a run which ended with an NBA championship win over the Philadelphia 76ers.
