The Nike SB Vertebrae, first announced at the very top of the year and released to consumers just days ago, is the newest addition to the Nike SB roster. On top of that, it’s the first non-signature shoe introduced over that past year. That is, not imprinted under one of their signature athletes. As the model makes its way through its handful of debut colorways, another one is joining the party- a blue and orange “Knicks” configuration.
When taken alongside minimally constructed, lightweight SB offerings like the Check, Janoski, or modified Blazers released under the umbrella, the Vertebrae is a markedly more intricate shoe. That’s in nearly every category, from the mixed media of its suede overlay, leather heel cap and mesh tongue. Additionally, the generative outsole represents a technological lean not seen on those aforementioned sneakers, most instead opting for a classic, tried-and-true approach to the same hardware.
As for the colorway in question, the New York Knicks’ orange and blue has appeared on more Nike shoes than you can possibly count, so its appearance here isn’t much of a shock. Neither is it much of a departure from the initial looks we got at the Vertebrae, with this palette just a few degrees from the inaugural “Summit White” Nike SB Vertebrae that carried volt and blue detailing.
With the very first drops now in the rear view for the Vertebrae, it’s time for the silhouette to begin its lifespan as a mainline product. The “Knicks” edition does not come with a concrete release date, but expect to catch these at retailers and the Nike website sooner than later, carrying a retail price of $85.
In other Nike SB news, the “Black Fishnet” Blazer Mid got its own new look for Spring ’24.
