Nike co-found Bill Bowerman said it’s all about the feet – not the shoes, and that ethos still guides a certain sector of Nike’s runners. That would be the Nike Free category, which is celebrating its ten-year anniversary in 2014 with the return of the original Nike Free silhouette. Of course the Swoosh has a long history of creating these sort of stripped down sneakers that begins way back with the Cortez in 1972 and stops along the way at Beaverton-design hallmarks like the Nike Huarache and the Presto.
