New Balance Crafts The Test Run PRJ 3.0 Entirely Out Of Surplus Materials

New Balance Crafts The Test Run PRJ 3.0 Entirely Out Of Surplus Materials

Joining the race for widespread and accessible sustainability, New Balance has ushered in yet another release from their innovative design program, tasking many — with its winning designer this time around being Seth Maxwell — to take an existing midsole and provide it an upper built solely from surplus materials. Borrowing the namesake of the initiative itself, the Test Run PRJ 3.0 arrives in three different takes with almost each and every component borrowing from factory excess. More specifically, the sockliners themselves as well as the cushioning pellets, upper mesh, webbing, and synthetic all serve to minimize waste alongside an attached Vibram tread whose EcoStep variation sports a 30% recycled construction.

Amped off a trail ethos, the entire capsule arrives not too far off from some of the more recent FreshFoam releases whose more inspired presentations have lead them far out of left field from the Boston stalwart’s many grey suede staples. The same can most certainly be said here as they all bear neons in spades or lettering and patterns seemingly futuristic by intention; mesh layers add a less structured feel next to more sturdy pieces of synthetic panelling while an added on strap system stitches down in zig-zag pattern to further support the shoe itself in lieu of an ordinary lace unit.

Grab a detailed look at what’s in store just right below and find them releasing to a select batch of retailers on November 15th for a retail of $180 USD.
