You might not think it when considering individual pairs of their respective outputs, but American designer John Varvatos and Japanese innovator Yohji Yamamoto have indeed run in parallel for the last decade. Varvatos and Yamamoto were among the first well-established fashion designers brought into the fold at major sneaker brands, a move that set off a trend towards collaborative design that we’re still waiting to see reach its peak. They’re also a perfect pair to put a caricature on each country’s sneaker leanings, Varvatos celebrating vintage American rugged good looks while Yamamoto symbolizes Japan’s technophilia with cutting edge silhouettes that look like they were made for the next Jet Set Radio game. Yamamoto’s adidas Y-3 capsule will close out its 10th anniversary year with a bunch of his favorite designs and a heavy emphasis on black, red and blue (with orange and green thrown in for the ladies), and you can see the entire AW 2012-13 collection after the jump below.
