Looking Back At The Nike “Fantastic Four” Pack From 2006

Nike Fantastic Four Pack 2016

Updated August 3rd, 2024: This article was originally published in July 2012 as part of our ongoing Classics Revisited series. It has been updated with new imagery and information that reflects current times.

Nike’s ‘Fantastic Four’ Pack featured four models representing each of the four members of the Marvel Comics superhero team – the Air Max 90 (Mr. Fantastic), Air Force 1 Low (Invisible Woman), Dunk High (The Thing), and Air Max 95 (Human Torch). The opposing force to the ‘Fantastic Four’ Pack was the team’s long-standing rival Dr. Doom, who took form in the Air Foamposite Pro. The shoes originally released in 2006, but with heightened interest around Marvel characters and the return of the Fantastic Four franchise to the silver screen, we’re taking a look back at one of the more memorable capsules from the mid-2000s.

Unlike the Silver Surfer Nike Dunks, the Fantastic Four Pack has no obvious marks or illustrations connecting it to the Marvel characters.

Nike Air Max 90 “Mr. Fantastic”

As the leader of the Fantastic Four, Reed Richards is known for his ability to stretch his limbs and body to immeasurable degrees. This Air Max 90 is arguably the simplest of the entire collection as it features a an all-blue upper with white accents on the Swoosh, laces, interior lining, and midsole.

Nike Air Force 1 Low “Invisible Woman”

In the early-mid 2000s, clear shoes were the rage. We saw it in ESPO’s Air Force 2 collaboration and later in CLOT’s Air Max 1. Nike applied the transparent TPU upper on the Air Force 1 Low as a tribute to the Invisible Woman, known for her ability to vanish from sight.

Nike Air Max 95 “Human Torch”

Johnny Storm’s Human Torch is easily the most visible of the pack; the Air Max 95 is set aflame in a full patent leather upper with a gradation of reds to yellows mimicking the hero’s body covered in fire. Fun fact: the Human Torch was supposed to be a Dunk High, but got scrapped in favor of the 95s.

Nike Dunk High “Thing”

Ben Grimm’s Thing covers this Dunk High with a unique, rocky texture on the brown overlay. It’s matched with light tan smooth leather and bright orange Swoosh and interior.

Nike Air Foamposite Pro “Doctor Doom”

Victor Von Doom is back in the mainstream thanks to Disney/Marvel’s casting of Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom in the upcoming Avengers films. While best known for his green and silver metallic costumes, Nike opted for a simple black/white colorway of the popular Air Foamposite Pro.
