It’s hard enough getting your just due when you play in Oklahoma City, but imagine trying to get your signature kicks noticed when you endorse for the same sneaker company as internationally-known superstars like LeBron James and Kobe Bryant. So far in his short NBA career, Kevin Durant has done just about everything a team could ask for, and although he is rapidly developing into one of the NBA’s elite players, when it comes to his Nike kicks, he’s still in the shadow of King James and the Black Mamba. Kevin and the folks at Nike are counting on this to be his breakout year, both on the court and in terms of his second signature shoe.
We gave you a look at the KD2 a few months back as part of our Spring 2010 Nike Basketball preview, and now we get a glimpse of the special “Velvet Hoop” edition that Durant was seen rocking on the court during some recent games at Washington D.C.’s Barry Farm Rec Center. The kicks sport a vibrant red patent leather upper with touches of green and yellow and a wild multi-colored lining. With the NBA season right around the corner, it looks like Kevin Durant and Nike are on the right path to gaining some notoriety for both Kevin and his new KD2 shoe. If KD ‘s game keeps improving at its current rate, it may only be a matter of time before a third MVPuppet gets to join in the fun. Via KD’s/NikeBasketball’s Twitter.
