As teased earlier, Ray Allen had a chance to make history tonight as the Celtics took on the visiting rival Lakers in front of the hometown crowd in Boston. Allen, already the owner of a variety of NBA shooting records started the game only one bucket behind Reggie Miller for the most 3-point field goals made in league history. You don’t get to that pinnacle by having many night’s where your shot is off, and tonight was definitely no exception. Sugar Ray wasted no time, knocking down an early three in the first quarter to tie the record and quickly followed up with another at the 1:48 mark to claim it all for himself. After getting back on defense, as soon as there was a break in the action, Ray went over to pay his respects to a gracious Reggie Miller, sitting courtside and even got some fistbump love from the Black Mamba.
As impressive as Ray’s accomplishment was, we can’t help but to wonder, ‘Is it the shoes?’ The longtime Jordan Team athlete has been rocking Air Jordans on the NBA floor since his rookie year in 1996, and while MJ was never really known as a 3-point specialist, we have to think that wearing his shoes couldn’t have hurt. To help commemorate the special occasion in the making, tonight Ray broke out a fresh white/green Air Jordan XIII PE featuring his name stitched onto the tongue. The shoe is not expected to release, but maybe Jordan will feel the overwhelming need to celebrate the milestone with a nice quickstrike PE drop. Not likely, but you know we’ll keep you posted, so stick with Sneaker News and check out some more pics and videos after the jump.
