Footscape and Free? Really? They’re a lot more closely knit than you think. In the early 90’s Nike researched a ton of ‘barefoot’ running, and born from that thought process was the Nike Footscape, which featured a unique mold that was designed in the shape of a foot and an off-centered lacing structure that displaced pressure away from sensitive areas of the foot. Of course, Nike Free arrived much later, but the idea of ‘Free’ was born around the same time. In comes the Nike Footscape Free, which seamlessly welds these two schools of thought – not exactly identical twins, but very close cousins. Featuring a breathable upper with the key Footscape and Free design elements, the Footscape Free hones in on the advantages of both models to create what might the most comfortable foot-formed running shoe to date. Premier has these 2012 launches available just before the New Year ($110 a pop), so check out the detailed angles of both and give the Footscape Free a whirl.
