1988’s 1500 wasn’t just New Balance’s flagship running shoe, but a series that also included the brand’s best tennis and basketball sneakers, all built on the same cushioning platform. The sequel had quite a lot to live up to, and given that we’ve not seen a new colorway such a long time, you might naturally conclude that just like the Nike Air Max 1 in ’87, ’88’s 1500s marked a high water point for the US/UK running specialists. But then you get a glimpse at the ever so slightly technical yet still throughly suede and mesh New Balance 1600 and you start to wonder why colorups like this crisp Heritage Blue look hadn’t retroed sooner. What’s done is done and we hope what’s coming includes more 1600s (look out for the red pair this holiday season) following up on this pair that’s available now from Packer Shoes.
