The Jordan Brand Classic Continues Its Rise As The Premier High School Talent Showcase

Jordan Brand Classic 2015 Recap 3

Since it launched in 2002, the Jordan Brand Classic has had participation from some of the biggest names now in the NBA. The likes of Melo, LeBron, LaMarcus Aldridge, Blake Griffin, KD, Boogie Cousins, Kyrie, Anthony Davis and Jabari Parker have all been a part of the festivities. Tyus Jones, Jahlil Okafor, Grayson Allen, and Justise Winslow, from this year’s National Champion Duke team played in last year’s game as well, with Okafor taking home the MVP for the winning East team.

On Saturday, the 14th Annual Jordan Brand Classic took place, once again at Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn. Jumpman endorsed athletes Carmelo Anthony, Maya Moore, Victor Oladipo and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist were on hand throughout the day to witness some of the best talent from around the world, being featured in 4 different games.

It started with the International game, showcasing the best 16 and under players from around the globe. The White team beat the black team 63-58, with the MVP awards going to Jaylen Hoard of the White team and Njegos Sikiras of the Black team. Next, the first ever Girls Game, hosted by Jordan Brand athlete and WNBA star Maya Moore, was a close one, with the East coming out on top with a 76-75 victory. Maya presented the MVP awards to Napheesa Collier of the East and Taja Cole of the West.

The Regional game tipped off at 5:30, where some of the locals faced off in a high scoring affair, with the Away team notching a 125, 112 win. Regional MVP honors went to Donovan Mitchell of the White team and Jalen Adams of the Black team. In main event/last matchup of the night, some great players took the court in what turned out to be an awesome game. There were some exciting plays throughout and the score was close late in the game.

The crowd got loud whenever East player and Kentucky commit Isaiah Briscoe from Union, NJ touched the ball. The building was electric when he hit a big shot late, but it wasn’t enough, as the West pulled out the 118-116 victory. Cheick Diallo (uncommitted) from the East had some Hakeem-esque moves to rack up 26 points and 11 rebounds, taking home the MVP for the East, while the super athletic Allonzo Trier (committed to Arizona) scored a game-high 28 points to scoop the West MVP. Melo and Jordan Brand President Larry Miller presented the guys with the MVP trophies. After the game, friend of the program Nicki Minaj performed in her Singer Exclusive Air Jordans, made specially for her.

Overall, it was a great week for everyone involved. Jordan Brand had a lot of great interactive things going on in the arena, the players got to check out New York City and the fans were treated to some great competitive basketball games, which made for a great event.
