There’s no question that Oregon Duck PEs, particularly in Jordan Retro form, jumpstarted that PE/sample buying craze that got serious really quick (current and former Nike employees were caught stealing and selling shoes for ridiculous amounts). Another big problem was that student athletes at the University of Oregon were selling the shoes that were issued to them for insane sums of money to the point where Tinker Hatfield was quoted as saying he was very disappointed that the shoes were sold to the public like that. For this particular Air Jordan 5, Jordan Brand etched the exact jersey numbers of each individual athlete on the tongue of the shoe, which might sound like a dope detail, but was probably created to track them down if the athlete decided to flip ’em for a quick buck. Pairs without the numbers (yes, they exist) were handed out to friends and family of the brand, but it appears that one has landed on eBay at an incredible price.
