ASICS Tiger continues to search far and wide for new inspirations for some of their most iconic retro models. Last year’s NBA All-Star Weekend festivities saw a number of brands utilize the Aurora Borealis, that naturally occurring phenomenon also known as the Northern Lights, as inspiration featuring plenty of iridescent finishes and reflective touches. Now ASICS is bringing that theme back with their upcoming ASICS Aurora Borealis Collection featuring a unique ASICS Gel Lyte III and two different pairs of the ASICS Gel Lyte V.
The ASICS Aurora Borealis Collection kicks things off with an ominous Gel Lyte III pair that utilizes a black suede upper, synthetic snakeskin scales, and a touch of irridescence changing from teal to purple throughout the side panels. It’s a look we’ve seen adidas Originals pull off before on the likes of their adidas ZX Flux, but seeing this aesthetic on a pair of ASICS is rather jarring at first glance.
2 different ASICS Gel Lyte V pairs approach the Northern Lights theme in completely different ways. The first, shown above, adds iridescent Tiger stripes on the side panel for good measure. The premium tooling even throws in touches of vibrant aqua speckling on the midsole and heel to match for a head-turning look. The rest of the colorway is rather standard, with a synthetic leather matching the ventilated black sports mesh throughout. Then there’s the premium suede option, also in black, that reworks the classic running model through the use of snakeskin panels on the side complete with the color changing effect.
