Ice Cube’s BIG3 half-court basketball league now has an official outfitter that offers a “big 3” of their own: the brand with the three stripes. adidas and the BIG3 league recently announced that they’ve agreed upon a three-year deal for adidas to provide uniforms, apparel, and fan merchandise like tees, hoodies, and hats to the 3-on-3 half court league that features NBA legends like Allen Iverson and Jermaine O’Neal. After the end of their deal with the NBA following the 2016-17 season, adidas will now focus their basketball uniform efforts on the fledgling league, also assisting with player development and grassroots efforts to expand the league’s global reach.
Now is an interesting time for 3-on-3 basketball, as it’s the most popular form of the sport worldwide, and will be included in the Olympics starting in 2020. BIG3 comissioner and NBA Hall Of Famer Clyde Drexler stated: “At its core, the Big3 is about innovation. It’s about taking the purest form of basketball, three-on-three, and finding new ways to engage and excite both fans and players. Adidas has long been at the nexus of sport and innovation, making them the perfect creative partners in our work to propel the game of three-on-three basketball on a global stage. Together, we will continue to redefine what professional basketball looks like.”
