Easily one of the biggest headlines of 2024 so far was the return of the Wu-Tang Dunk, a retro effort for a grail pair that’d captured sneakerhead attention for more than two decades. As we near the end of Fall 2024, official Nike images of the coveted edition mean we’re getting closer to the 2024 edition becoming a reality.

In these glossy product shots, a true retro is confirmed, replicating the “Iowa” Dunk High body with the Wu’s W logo appearing on the heel counter and on the tongue. A silken sockliner and textured leather foundation speak to elevated hardware, only fitting for a drop with this much significance. To that end, these serve as a very early exemplar of collaborative footwear that’d come to define sneaker collecting decades later. It’ll offer a chance for the public to get their hands on these, once a genuine impossibility lest you were willing to shell out five or six figure resell prices.

In the months since news hit the public, the Wu Tang Dunk has become an unofficial face of the “open the vault” initiative, a spate of releases that reprise these sorts of beloved cult classics. Over the next 12 months competition will be stiff (the Undefeated Jordan 4 and Galaxy Foams among them), but the Wu Tang Dunk is a prime candidate to emerge as the most coveted of that group.
