Raf Simons and adidas Unveil The RS Detroit High

The library adidas has amassed in terms of collaborators is beaming with talent, recruiting legends like Rick Owens, Yohji Yamamoto, and, of course, Raf Simons to inflict each of their own personal visions onto the Three Stripes moniker. With the latter often wearing his own Stan Smith silhouettes, it by no means reflects his eclectic sense of design. Retaining an almost momentous reputation thanks to the overstated Ozweego, the designer is now reframing his Detroit Runner, modifying it with a high-top construction. While similar to the low in its aggressive outsole and mostly minimal upper, the newest iteration dials it up a notch, giving the model a boot-like appearance with a characteristically imposing silhouette. Patched onto the lateral side of the ankle is a graphic portrait of an anonymous female figure, calling back to the fetishized culture of glam rock while incorporating some of Simons’ popular motifs. Below a smaller label prints “Raf Simons Antwerp SS 2019,” remarking on his connection to haute couture. Arriving in a Red/Black, Black/Pink, and White/Grey, the RS Detroit High is expected to hit adidas.com and select retailers come January 24th.
