If the past few years are any indication, Nike has a penchant for reforging many of their classic silhouettes — most of these very offerings being women’s exclusives. And in what is effectively the spiritual successor to the Dunk Sky Hi and the sacai x Dunk Lux before it, the Dunk Low Disrupt arrives with a design half composed of heritage elements and half replete with a fresh, near chaotic design language.
Touted as a pillar of “non-conformed distortion,” the newly invented model starts its changes first at the tooling, a heavily accented, sculpted piece that borrows influence from basketball shoes of the mid-80s. Elsewhere, aside from the same-named, the template draws partially from the Air Train which is evident along the subtly perforated toe cap as well as the overtly vintage mesh tongue. The Dunk then takes the reigns nearly everywhere else in general aesthetic, though the usual elements — swooshes, lace unit, and the like — are shone through an abstract filter of oversized swooshes, extended panels, and comically large pull tabs.
Grab a detailed look at the Dunk Low Disrupt’s inaugural round of colorways and sit tight as they’re expected to release on Nike SNKRS come September 4th.
