For this year’s Chinese New Year, adidas Hoops is ostensibly taking a distinct approach, opting out of the usual zodiac-specific design for an all-encompassing nod to the country. Dubbed “Made in China,” the collection (for now) spans the signature D.O.N Issue #2 as well as the D Rose 11, both treated to an auspicious, pattern-heavy makeover.
The D Rose 11 helms the collection with a relatively versatile interpretation of the pack’s themes. Dark orange accents dress across the collar and midsole, taking the lead in a graphic replete with traditional imagery. Purples, reds, and yellows complement alongside, contrasting that of the neutral Adizero upper. Elsewhere, the medial features 3M stripes, the heel the usual athlete-specific insignia, and the tongue a tri-logo arrangement of both adidas and Chinese symbols.
In comparison, the D.O.N. ISSUE #2 is far more bold, its print dialed up a notch in vibrancy. The warm tones now pop in a much bolder fashion, dotting maximally over a mosaic similar to the aforementioned pair. Its construction also makes more widespread use of black, the leathers a foundation for gilded motifs and loud contrast stitch.
