After bringing back the GEL-Kayano 5 OG not too long ago, ASICS started to take a much, much closer look at their archive. As a result, the brand has slowly reintroduced some OG GEL-Lyte IIIs and even new releases for the relatively obscure GEL-Kayano 14 (they’re on their 27th iteration now). This retro trend seems to be continuing well into 2021, as the Japanese footwear institution is proffering two colorways of the GEL-Preleus.

Originally designed in the 2000s, the GEL-Preleus is the brain child of two ASICS notables: Noriyuki Murai and Kayano creator Toshikazu Kayano. Kayano, whose expertise is well-utilized across the midsole, has drawn from amoebas, giving the tooling a decisively unique and freeform look. Similarly, the upper — which Murai can take credit for — explores the very same themes as its inspired by the clouds’ freedom of movement. This is reflected in the mesh and synthetic leather construction, panels that warp to all sorts of shapes at the counter, toe, eye stay, and the like.

Later this week, the silhouette will be offered in both “Camel Beige” and “Aizuri Blue.” The latter is currently up for grabs on ASICS.com, while the former will appear at select retailers later today. Sit tight as more stockists will surely appear throughout the next few days.

In other news, a Valentine’s Day New Balance 57/40 has just surfaced.
