Among the Nike Air Max collection of revolutionary models is a silhouette inspired by the human body—the Nike Air Max 95. The layered construction of Sergio Lozano’s design is a reference to the anatomy of muscles. Despite the graduated panels being a signature element of the AM 95, an upcoming Nike Air Max 95 Ultra is ditching the layered look while shaking up the design with bright blue accents and a two-toned midsole.
The pair indulges in a black mesh base followed by black leather toeguards. To convey the look of muscles as seen on the OG Air Max 95 model, decals in wave shapes are emblazoned across the sides. This creates the illusion of a graduated paneling minus the bulkiness that may occur with a layered construction. At the heel and on the Air unit, vivid blue branding is used to disrupt the wholly greyscale appearance. Reflective lace loops and a two-colored sole unit are other instances of design cues that distinguish this AM 95 Ultra from its predecessors. The sole is split between grey and black to deliver an offering that maintains a seemingly sleek look that consists of plenty of surprises.
