Before high fashion and sportswear married in the mainstream, Yohji Yamamoto had been blending both contrasting worlds under the adidas Y-3 label. As his brand continues its “20 Year: Re-Coded” anniversary celebration, it has unveiled Chapter 2 of its Spring/Summer 2022 collection.
Inspired by the concept of “Transformative Optimism,” Y-3’s latest footwear and apparel capsule indulges in vibrant color palettes, unexpected floral patterns and avant-garde sensibilities. On the footwear side of things, the latest adidas-backed collection features the Y-3 MAKURA, 4D HALO, Y-3 HOKORI SANDALS and more. Akin to the included clothing and accessories, which include bucket hats, bathrobes and technical jackets, the shoes and slides inspired by Yamamoto’s 20-year-old Three Stripes archive boasts spring-ready floral prints, clean white or black ensembles, and evocative design cues that’ve become synonymous with the 78-year-old Japanese designer. “Chapter 2” for Y-3’s latest collection revisits the past through the lens of the future, delivering product that’s familiar, yet refreshing.
