Inspired by retro basketball style and the prevalence of gold and silver accents and details through 1980s fashion, Engineered Garments founder Daiki Suzuki pulls it all together for his label’s next collaborative effort with the Reebok brand. The choice of the BB4000 II is intentional as Suzuki points out that the silhouette “deviate(s) from the typical university styles seen from other popular brands,” instead choosing a model that emerged alongside the hip-hop movement of the decade.
Looking back through Engineered Garments’ partnership with Reebok and you’ll notice some common themes. Monochromatic executions are certainly commonplace as is subtlety. The latter isn’t the case here as the BB4000 II is completely flooded in metallic golds and silvers, a true anomaly given the brand’s tendency for understated color selections. But these tonal metallics align with the distinct nature of the model which was known for reptile-skin textures, patent leathers, and other eye-catching materials that helped gain notoriety in urban culture.
A release is currently slated for April 26th, 2024 exclusively through Engineered Garments with a wider release expected on May 3rd on Reebok.com.
