Darth Vader Engulfs The Star Wars x adidas NMD R1

Star Wars, adidas, and contemporary art gallery NANZUKA add to their collaborative Star Wars Day capsule with a Darth Vader-inspired take on the adidas NMD R1, set to release alongside a Superstar XLG and Stan Smith on May 4th.

To little surprise, the shoes begin with an all-black base, a celebrated NMD and Ultraboost look in its own right back in the mid-2010s. Glossy TPU treatments define a tribal pattern made to look like Vader’s helmet on the forefoot, giving some gleam to the monotone design. More Star Wars callbacks appear at the heel via a decorated TPU panel and red text reading “Most Impressive” on the midsole portion, a famous line from Vader’s battle with Luke in The Empire Strikes Back.

Enjoy official images below and mark your calendar for the shoe’s release on May 4th. No firm price has been confirmed at the time of this writing, but expect a slight hike from the NMD R1’s typical $130 mark.
