Love it or hate it, Nike isn’t afraid of a big swing. During the most recent SNKRS Preview, even amid massive news like the return of the Galaxy Foams or the Zoom Spiridon silhouette, arguably the biggest eyebrow-raiser came from more humble beginnings. In Frankenstein mashup fashion, Beaverton creatives took the body of the Waffle Racer and affixed it to the sole of the Air Max Plus for the aptly named “Air Max Waffle Racer.”

The “Action Green” edition set to tee the silhouette off on November 14th pays homage to two of its component models most enduring looks, the “Triple Black” colorway featured here imbues a far more cohesive profile. It’s still a bit jarring to see the maximalist sole design of the Tn grafted onto the ultra-simplistic 1970s construction of the Waffle Racer, but the all-over palette blunts the effect. Look to the heel for an enduring testament to the decades-spanning design; the 90s jewel logo of the Air Max Plus sits below the vintage Nike heel cup, encapsulating the dueling designs on display with this shoe.

The Nike Air Max Waffle Racer “Triple Black” releases on November 26th, retailing for $140. Head just ahead to get a look at detailed retail images.
