A Ma Maniére’s Nike-Backed Film Highlights Black Creatives In The Industry

With A Ma Maniére’s 10th anniversary Nike Inc. collection wrapping up with the Maniére Weapon Ox, James Whitner and company are ready to bring their Nike-backed “While You Were Sleeping” short film to screens across the US.

The film features a number of renowned black entrepreneurs, including Bimma Williams, Jae Tips, Nina Chanel Abney, Chris Gibbs, and Angelo Baque just to name a few. The cast joins forces to take on the Creative Resource Agency; a dystopian organization that imposes a “Black Tax” on minority creatives.

A Ma Maniére’s “While You Were Sleeping” film debuts in London on December 12th before hitting five US cities the following week. Harlem’s legendary Apollo Theatre, which played a crucial role in celebrating the expression of black culture in the mid-20th century, will be the site of two screenings on December 17th. Theaters in Atlanta, Houston, and Washington DC are also hosting screenings on that date, while Cinelounge Sunset in Los Angeles is hosting several from December 18th-25th. The full schedule and free tickets can be found on A Ma Maniére’s Eventbrite here (unfortunately, most showings are already sold out).
