Breakdown Of The Air Jordan 3 “Black Cat”
The Air Jordan 3 “Black Cat” originally released in 2007 as the second entry to the design theme’s series. The 2025 retro does right by the original with a black nubuck upper, greyscale elephant print on the toe and heel panels (and laces), and a glossy patent leather mudguard. However, much like we saw with the recent “Black Cement” retro, many have been quick to point out that the elephant print sections are a bit lighter this time around.
History Of “Black Cat” Jordans
The history of the “Black Cat” name dates back to Michael Jordan’s pre-college days, when teammates and opponents alike gave him the nickname due to his basketball prowress, agility, and smoothness on the court. The first Jordan shoe to adopt the nickname was the “Black Cat” Jordan 4 in 2006, which set the tone for future releases under the design theme with its nubuck upper and stealthy all-black makeup. The “Black Cat” Jordan 3 came a year later, but it took about a decade for Jordan Brand to resume the series on other numbered models like the Jordan 6 and Jordan 13 (which has a sole inspired by panther paws) in the mid-2010s. We published a rundown on all Black Cat Jordans last summer, if you’re interested in a more comprehensive overview.
In 2024, perhaps as a means to stir anticipation for 2025 Jordan releases, “Black Cat” Jordans were out in force. New formulations like the Spiz’ike Low and Jordan 4 RM both got slapped with “Black Cat” colorways, and Jordan Brand playfully iterated on the theme with a variety of playful “Black Cat” releases for Halloween. On top of the Black Cat 3s on January 11th, Jordan Brand also plans to retro the more sought-after Black Cat 4s during the Holiday 2025 shopping season, marking its third overall release and first retro since 2020.
