In preparation of the Nike Air Force 1‘s 40th anniversary, the North American sportswear behemoth has tapped handfuls of collaborators to help contextualize Bruce Kilgore’s iconic design. The full list of partners hasn’t been disclosed yet, but Stussy has secured a spot in what’s likely to be a historic string of releases as it’s prepped (at least) two colorways of the model’s mid-top trim.
Preceded by a white and black pair, the upcoming sneakers indulge in a near-tonal, pitch-dark look across its upper and sole unit. Leather panels throughout Bruce Kilgore’s 1982-design are dipped in a black makeup that complements the historic New York City streetwear brand’s aesthetic well. The midsole and tread combination underfoot harkens back to some of the most classic Air Force 1 colorways of yesteryear, as “AIR” and outsoles deliver stark contrast to the white foam-cushioning. Less branded than the Louis Vuitton Air Force 1 options prepped by the late-Virgil Abloh, the sneakers don Stussy logos on the tongue label, lockdown strap velcro-backed strip and spine in varying tones.
