Pop Trading Company was founded in Amsterdam in 2013 by Messrs Peter Kolks and Ric van Rest. Over the last 10 years, the tight-knit collective has brought their take on skateboarding to the rest of the Netherlands, as well as the world with the help of partners like adidas Skateboarding.
Recently, both institutions unveiled their debut collaboration. Inspired by the outdoors, the collection includes footwear, apparel, and accessories headlined by the adidas Campus ADV and Swift R2 GTX. Pop looked to its home country’s flat lowlands for its design process and promotional campaign, landing on items that’ll protect skaters against the changing elements.
“We were stoked when adidas Skateboarding gave us creative reign to design this range,” said Kolks in an official press release. “Our goal was to create a line that fuses skateboarding with menswear, to find elements that complement those two worlds, and deliver something truly unique and unexpected.”
The Campus ADV isn’t a new product to the Three Stripes’ skate efforts, but the Swift R2 GTX is. As part of the adidas TERREX line, the Swift R2 GTX provides a reliable low-cut silhouette for any alpine terrain adventure. Pop’s skateable version maintains waterproof GORE-TEX technology across the suede, mesh, and nylon upper. Speed lacing also lands on the shoe, which features all-over Pop branding and a mostly green style.
By comparison, the adidas Campus ADV arrives with a tan ripstop upper complemented by a rubber toe bumper and suede panels along the tongue. Pop keeps branding much more tame on the revamped adidas Originals design, relying on logos around the heel. Elsewhere, a recycled OrthoLite sockliner rounds out the tan, grey, and yellow skate shoe.
Apparel and accessories for the debut Pop x adidas Skateboarding range include: the packable Pop Tech Jacket, Pop Thermal Love Sleeve, Pop Tech Tee, Pop Tech Sock, and Pop Superlite Cap. Recycled Primegreen, water repellent, and sweat-wicking AEROREADY technologies appear across the items.
The first adidas Skateboarding by Pop Trading Company collection is available now via the Dutch label’s webstore. All items arrive via the adidas CONFIRMED app, adidas.com/skateboarding, and select skate retailers on February 18. Pricing for the Pop Swift R2 GTX and Pop Campus ADV silhouettes is $150 and $85, respectively; apparel ranges from $15 to $180.
